A conversation with Dr. Richard Biffle, Thomas College

We ask these hard hitting questions in this race, equity, and diversity themed podcast. Length– 33 minutes

  1. Is middle school too early to begin discussions about race outside of historical context like slavery?
  2. How do we go beyond teaching about African American history and culture only during MLK day and African American history month?
  3. Maine is the whitest state in the US. How do we have productive conversations about race when most, if not all, of our middle school students are white?
  4. What rationale and conversation should we prepare as we move towards culturally sustaining pedagogy and addition of equity into our curriculum when parents, administration, or colleagues dissent?
