At beautiful Point Lookout, we will congregate once again on October 17th and 18th, 2019, to discuss all things middle level. This year, our theme is Filling Our Cups. We know that as middle level teachers, administrators, and stakeholders we all work hard for our students, but sometimes it is important to take a step back and take care of ourselves too. This year, we’ll be accentuating, along with the middle-level practice sessions you’ve come to expect from us, socio-emotional learning, self-care practices, trauma-informed pedagogy, and digital literacy practices that accentuate access.
New this year are three specific roadmaps at our conference geared towards a particular audience. We’ll have the following “tracks” available that you may choose to follow (or not)!
-Preservice and early-career teacher track
-Middle level administration track
-Middle school teacher/practice track
In the sessions specified for preservice and early-career teachers, presenters will cover topics such as classroom management, navigating IEP meetings, and interviewing for the job. Don’t let the track name deter you– these sessions can be helpful for novice AND veteran teachers!
In the sessions specified for middle level administration, various middle level administrators will share their thoughts on effective middle level practices for leadership and teachers. Several discussion-based panels will allow for conversations about getting into middle level administration along with question and answer sessions about middle level administration.
In the sessions specified for middle school teacher/practice, we’ll get into the nitty-gritty day-to-day pedagogical techniques, self-care practices, and student advocacy for a variety of middle level content areas. These will include reaching diverse student populations, practicing digital literacies with access in mind, and STEAM instruction.
Helpful to all include special sessions like Police Chief presentations about school safety!
